Always on the look out for a good bargain, I stopped off at the Salvation Army Family Centre to see what they had in their charity
shop. I came across this old dining chair from 1977 for $5 and so I snapped it up.
You may well be thinking that I’ve gone completely off my rocker, I mean it looks pretty hideous doesn’t it?!!! Well I fancied doing a little renovation project for Eloise’s bedroom and thought this would be ideal.
First of all I took off the seat and sanded down the lovely chocolate coloured paint from the frame!
And then I gave it two coats of gold paint as an undercoat.
Once the gold undercoat was dry, I painted a top coat of teal blue and then using a fine sandpaper I sanded down all the edges and some of the frame until the gold undercoat started to show through.
This gave the chair a lovely old distressed look.
I found some lovely material in town to cover the seat with, so I replaced the foam base and Greg helped me to staple the new material in place.
Here is the finished chair. I had some material left over from the seat cover and so I made Eloise a little heart to hang on the side of it.
She loved it and we tidied her room out tonight just so we could fit it in! Happy Days……..
