On Tuesday morning we left the motel at 9:30am to walk down to the Otago Museum.  On our walk the previous afternoon, we had noticed a poster advertising their Tropical Forest with butterfly release programme.  We knew Eloise would love this, so we got there when it opened and took Eloise through to the Tropical Forest to see the butterflies.

A lady who managed the breeding programme came out to the tropical foreP2140212 (Small)st with a large plastic box containeing loads of butterflies which were ready to be released.

She gave Eloise the first butterfly out of the box, it was huge and it just sat there on the top of Eloises hand.  She thought this was absolutely amazing and walked around with it on her hand for ages!

The place was fantastic with loads of butterflies of all different colours flying around the forest and around our heads, one came right up to me and nearly landed on my nose!

Here are some photos we took, there is also a photo of an Atlas Moth, it was huge, they can grow up to 30cm in diameter, see if you can spot it in the photos below.

Did you spot the Atlas Moth?????

We didn’t have time to look around the whole museum unfortunately.  We did look around the science displays as they were mostly interactive displays and Eloise had great fun trying them out.  A few photos of the science section below.

The photo on the far left shows Eloise and Greg in the bendy mirror and the next photo shows Greg and Eloise battling it out with their brainwaves.  They had to wear special head gear which measured their brainwaves, they then used their brainwaves to move a little white ball along the tube.  First person to push the ball to the other side won.

This was Eloise inside a massive bubble.  It’s hard to make out in the photo.  She basically had to pull the rope really quickly, which raised the hula hoop out of the washing up liquid and made this huge bubble all around her.

This is Greg taking it easy in the relaxation chamber.  Eloise is in charge of the controls!  She can change the colour of the background lighting and select some nice relaxing music.

Wish we had more time here, but we needed to crack on and head down to the Chinese Gardens.

I’ll write the blog on the Chinese Gardens tomorrow as it’s my bedtime!

Goodnight Smile
